Little Britain Complex
Architect: Fitzroy Robinson & Partners
Midwest was commissioned by Harmon Contract to manufacture a complicated curtainwall system created by Fitzroy Robinson & Partners for this headquarters facility, which would house Europe’s largest law firm in London’s Financial District. The system integrated a variety of components from differing types of stone and glass panels to huge casement windows that required a special hinge design.
Midwest, committed to carrying out the architect’s complex vision while meeting every performance requirement, spent 69,000 man-hours on design and engineering, and 192,000 man-hours on production and supervision. A total of 237 extrusion dies were created to address all of the angles and sightlines in the articulated 350,000 square feet (32,516 square meters) of curtainwall. Fabrication tolerances were an extremely tight 0.010 inch.
